Dresser Makeover

Things are about 80% done in our soon to be baby boy’s nursery.  I’d say 90% but I’m sure I’ll add a few more things that aren’t already planned within the next month!

Today I wanted to show off the before and after photos of the dresser I purchased for the room.

The before…

The dresser is from the 70′s and is an Ethan Allen solid maple dresser and heavy as all get out.  The photo actually makes it look better then it does in person, the wood doesn’t really look that pretty and of course the hardware needs to be updated.

I honestly think this is one of my nicest finds, not a scratch on it.  My heart broke when I opened one of the drawers once I got the piece home, there were letters dated 1978 from the owners grandchildren thanking their grandma for their birthday presents and 2 very pretty lace hankies.

This piece is quite large but didn’t seem to take too long to complete.  I usually spray my furniture but because I’m pregnant I decided to paint it by hand with a sponge roller using non-toxic paint.  My husband primed the piece with Kilz and then I rolled 3 coats of black paint onto the piece.

Unfortunately some of the knobs were not standard so my husband filled them and sanded them for me.

I love brass and found these great Martha Stewart pulls from Home Depot.

Here is the finished dresser!!

Of course I’m never one to be done with a project I decided to line the drawers.  I found some cool houndstooth wrapping paper from Target and because I always seem to change my mind I used glue dots to keep the paper down so the paper can be easily removed.

I usually paint the inside of drawers when I paint my furniture but the piece was in such great shape I left the wood and just lined it.

I really love how it turned out!  I can’t wait to fill it up with sweet little baby boy clothes!!
